Laurel Britton

President of The Britton Family Foundation

Laurel Britton founded and oversees a philanthropic fund that supports initiatives and organizations focused on economic inclusivity and community development, as well as arts and culture.


Until 2021, Laurel was Senior Vice President of Revenue and Operations at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, where she was responsible for executing the Museum’s management plan, including stewardship of the institution’s financial and organizational transformation. She was appointed to the position in 2015 after producing the Museum’s first-ever comprehensive strategic plan. She built and oversaw the Museum’s earned- revenue and data/analytics functions, as well as capital planning across the institution. In addition, she led the effort to safely re-open the Museum to the public in August 2020.


Britton previously worked with Christie’s, where she created a plan to increase the market share of its museum- services business. Prior to that, she served as adviser to the chairman of the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX), where she rebuilt its government-affairs department. Britton was also a key member of the team that built the Combating Terrorism Center at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, which provides research and policy analysis on terrorism, counterterrorism, and homeland security. She began her career at The Brookings Institution and holds a BA in political science and economics from Marquette University.


Laurel currently serves on the advisory council of The Brookings Institution’s Metropolitan Policy Program.
