
Robert F. Deutsch is an accomplished leader in the investment management industry with extensive business, governance and distribution experience. Over a 40-year career, Bob has built businesses from start-up to large-scale, both in the US and globally.
Among his current responsibilities, he is on the Board of the JP Morgan Funds and a Director of the Just Capital Foundation. As a JPM Funds Trustee, Bob oversees a full range of mutual funds, money market funds and exchange-traded funds with over $1 trillion in assets. At Just Capital he serves as Treasurer and chairs the Audit & Finance Committee. Bob is a strong proponent of sustainable investing and was instrumental in launching JULCD, an index that is tracked by the Goldman Sachs JUST ETF.
Bob started his career with Hewlett-Packard. When the first PC was introduced in 1981, he was among a small group in HP’s Computer Division tasked with marketing the new PC to corporate clients. Bob went on to join Goldman Sachs’ Fixed Income Group in 1986, and was one of the early employees of Goldman Sachs Asset Management when it was formed two years later.
In 1997, Bob joined JP Morgan Asset Management where he initially led the mutual funds sales team as US National Sales Manager. He then established and led JPM’s Global Liquidity Business, which became the market share leader serving multi-national companies around the world. Bob successfully led the business through the financial crisis of 2008 and actively engaged with industry groups and regulatory bodies on financial reform.
In 2013, Bob established and led the start-up of JP Morgan’s ETF business. Today, in his role as Chair of the JPM Funds ETF Committee, he oversees a full range of ETFs across asset classes with over $250 billion in assets under management.
Throughout his career, Bob emphasized building inclusive & cohesive teams and mentoring young talent, eschewing the traditional star-performer culture.
Bob is a graduate of the University of Delaware’s Lerner Business College, and a recipient of the H. Rodney Sharpe scholarship. Today, he chairs the Lerner Advisory Board and is actively engaged with the Career Center and student counseling.
